What does it mean to be a perfect Christian?

Updated: Jan 12

I have no idea what it means, and I really suspect that it's not possible with the exception of Jesus. I know that I am not even close and as hard as I try, I'll never be perfect. Romans 3:23-24 says, "all have sinned and fall short of God's glory, but are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus." I believe that the only way to get to Heaven is to know Jesus and accept that he died on the cross for our sins. If that's the case, then why is it that some Christians think that certain sinners are less worthy of God's grace?

As a single, pregnant college student I was judged pretty harshly. As a single mom, I was judged pretty harshly. However, when I got married several years later and quickly divorced, no one seemed to be bothered by that. We're told that all sins are considered the same because we're not following God's law, so how do Christians pick and choose which sins are acceptable?

Just recently, I was irritated by another Christian's posts voicing hate towards homosexuals... She was just speaking about homosexuality. She wasn't speaking out against adultery, stealing, murder, or anything in God's top 10. Ugh... When I see things like this, all I can think is that's the reason people don't like Christians. Sins are sins, no matter how you rank them. As much as I don't want to believe it, the cursing I do in the car is no better than if I had broken into a house. The difference might be that I'm going to apologize and ask for forgiveness. (I have been getting better, but it's like I'm a completely different person when I get behind the wheel.) We all fall short. We all judge. To be perfectly honest, if that same Christian would have written that post about murderers or human traffickers, I would have been fine with it. I think most of us would have felt the same. It's human nature.

As a Christian, I need to learn how to better show grace. I want to ask other Christians to show grace as well. We can't show grace like Jesus did, but we can surely try. We're all God's children, and we're all called to love one another. We have to get better at loving all of God's children. That means that we have to show ourselves grace and love as well.
